Food contact material regulations around the globe pose ever more stringent requirements on the materials can makers are able to use to design their products. These efforts across the industry are continuing to put consumer safety first in all of design and production approaches. While this is a-well known topic when talking about coatings, also sealants can contribute to mitigating and reducing risk from cans as a food contact material.

In order to enable wood flooring and floor layers to quickly find the right solution, the products are categorized by flooring types. If a product is suitable for the laying of different types of flooring, it will be listed in all of these categories.
Moreover, application instructions exist for the direct installation of resilient and textile floorings respectively wood flooring on standardised or renovated subfloor as well as the subfloor preparation of non-suitable subfloors for direct bonding of elastic and textile flooring respectively wood flooring.

Loba-Wakol, LLC is excited to announce the purchase of a new location in Wadesboro, NC. The North Carolina based facility will serve as the North American Headquarters for Loba-Wakol, LLC. The company has committed a significant investment in a 40-acre campus and 170,000 square foot warehouse that will bring the company’s existing operations under one roof with room to grow.
“This new location provides us with an optimal opportunity for further expansion. I am extremely pleased to make this facility our new North American headquarters. It will enable us to gather all staff on one campus, increase our efficiencies, and ultimately, provide a better customer experience,” said Ashley Carter, Chief Operating Officer for Loba-Wakol, LLC.

Alternatives to water-based CR adhesives and more ...
Driven by increasing technology requirements and changes in the supply of raw materials, Wakol is continuously expanding its foam adhesive product line. Accordingly, product launches at interzum 2019 include Chloroprene-Rubber(CR)-free water-based spray adhesives as well as an innovative flame retardant CR-Latex adhesive.
The demand for alternatives to water-based CR adhesives is higher than ever. Tailored to meet market requirements, Wakol has developed INTERCOLL D 3095, a CR-free 2-C dispersion adhesive based on polyurethane suitable for the manufacturing of mattresses and upholstery. Product features are comparable to 2-C CR-Latex adhesives. INTERCOLL D 3095 shows high initial tack as well as excellent green strength for bonding foam materials in a very short time. The dried adhesive film is very flexible and resistant against ageing. Moreover, INTERCOLL D 3095 is free from chlorine respectively halogen-organic compounds in general.
The new INTERCOLL D 3468 is a solvent-free 1-C CR-Latex adhesive that produces a self-extinguishing adhesive film and is therefore suitable for use in components that have to comply with fire protection requirements. Application fields include seating components designed for public transport respectively mass transport as well as mattresses for cruise ships or military facilities. From a product feature perspective, INTERCOLL D 3468 shows high temperature stability as well as excellent green strength for bonding foam materials in a very short time.

Wakol and Ardex Australia announced today, they have jointly acquired a strategic majority stake in Nexus Adhesives.
Nexus Adhesives is a market leader in the flooring adhesive and carpet backing compound industry in Australia.

Adhesives manufacturer Wakol GmbH is increasing its share in LOBA GmbH & Co. KG, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of surface treatments, and now holds a majority stake in the company. As Wakol has been majority-owned by ARDEX since 2015, LOBA will thus become part of the international ARDEX Group. To facilitate this transaction, four long-standing LOBA shareholders have put their shares up for sale. The overriding goal of this decision is to safeguard the company’s long-term success. Therefore, the new shareholder structure consists of Wakol GmbH and Michael Fischer, who will remain as Managing Partner.
“By linking LOBA with Wakol, we have managed to provide our company with an extremely sustainable perspective and pave the way for my succession early on. Ditzingen site to be expanded – company will remain independent
LOBA's Ditzingen site will be further expanded as a development and production center for surface finishing within the ARDEX Group. The treatment and finishing of wood and cork currently play a key role for LOBA. Additionally, the company is expanding its activities in finishing resilient floor coverings as well as cementitious surfaces.
The company name, brand and sales structure remain unchanged as well as the contact persons for customers and suppliers. In both companies, the organization and personnel will remain the same. Following a mandatory review by the antitrust authorities, the transaction is expected to be completed at the latest by the end of November 2018.

Innovative bonding of shafts
Wakol offers a new sprayable shoe adhesive with high initial strength and excellent processing properties. WAKOL D 3465 Special Adhesive is suitable for the manufacture of shoe shafts and insoles by hiding all common leather, cushioning and lining materials.
The use of this alkali- and ammonia-free raw material with very low allergenic potential reduces the skin-irritating effect of the adhesive significantly or substantially. Contamination of the adhesive during processing is impossible with the application in the closed container. Only a 10 kg container is connected directly to the spray gun which avoids the former refilling into a pressurised container. Mould formation in pressurised containers is therefore impossible.
The absence of odours (no ammonia) during processing is particularly beneficial. A high initial strength is already achieved with little pressure. In order to control the spray application of the undyed adhesive also on bright lining materials, a UV indicator is added which enables visualisation under black light. Typical spray devices can be used without any problems. Only the selected spray pressure must be readjusted or reduced to 1-2 bar. It is possible to clean the application devices with water. Work benches can also be easily cleaned with little effort. Very high heat resistance allows other work processes such as heatsetter, blow-drying and steaming without any problems. Hydrolysis tests (70°, 7d , 100% RF) permit use in the area of heavy and sports footwear.

INTERCOLL D 3447 Roller Adhesive – is a mattress adhesive for the manufacture of all types of mattresses. The water-based 1-C CR-Latex Roller adhesive is solvent-free and characterized by its superb tension stability when wet. The easy assembly and the process reliability are featured by the quick force build-up and the excellent instant tack.
INTERCOLL D 3386 for direct packing – has been developed for roller and spray application. The very fast drying of the adhesive makes a directly packaging of the mattress possible. It can be used as one-side or contact adhesive for all common mattresses and upholstery materials.
During interzum 2017 Wakol presents live two spray applications:
The 2-C CR-Latex Dispersion Adhesive INTERCOLL D 3453 is used in combination with INTERCOLL D 3437 Activator by spray-mix-application. It shows high initial strength for bonding foam materials in a short time.
INTERCOLL D 3460 is a 1-C CR-Latex Dispersion Adhesive can be used at a low spraying pressure, thus reducing the overspray and optimising consumption. The product can be applied using the "free-flow" method. In comparison to the mixed two-component adhesive, INTERCOLL D 3460 has a higher solids content and therefore a lower water content. This adds to a drying benefit.

WAKOL D 3756 Sealing Compound for Beverage cans
WAKOL D 3756 Sealing Compound is a water-based sealing compound based on SBR for beverage application and is suitable for the filling of mineral water, carbonated soft drink, beer as well as dairy products. It shows a very good performance using high throughput application machinery (up to 1500 epm / rotational multi-head liner) applying to small diameters.
It is formulated to achieve virtually no taste or odour influences on filling goods. Therefore WAKOL D 3756 Sealing Compound is suitable for taste-sensitive filling goods like e.g. mineral water.
It complies with latest regulatory requirements, according to European and FDA food contact regulations. TNO and Nehring certificates are available
It shows excellent performance on high-speed rotational multi liners due to low drying tendency on nozzles. Reject rates are exceptionally low. An excellent shear stability provides optimum performance through central supply systems.
WAKOL PU 4320 / 4315 Sealing Compound for Food pails and drums
WAKOL PU 4320 / 4315 Sealing Compound is a two-component, self-blowing polyurethane foam. It was especially developed to form gaskets for pails and drum covers with ring ladge application. For the product, full compliance for food contact according to European Food Contact law has been achieved.
As the foam shows a very good resistance against water, fats, oils and aliphatic solvents it can also be used for the sealing of packaging of aqueous-based products for technical applications, glycols, oils, aliphatic solvents and solid filling materials.
The reaction leads to an elastic and fine-porous gasket with a smooth surface. 2-C-Polyurethane technology offers several advantages: no oven needed, high form stability of the gasket, plasticizer free, low migration, PVC free.

Water-based and solvent-free
INTERCOLL D 3088 is a 2-component, water-based adhesive for the manufacture of upholstery and office chairs, as well as for assembly/packaging and the mattress industry. The unique and legally protected formula (patent-pending) is free from polychloroprene-latex (CR), solvents and plasticizers. The adhesive is formulated without organohalogen compounds and therefore offers a functioning market-tested alternative to previous systems.
Uncomplicated and accurate processing
INTERCOLL D 3088 is a 2-component adhesive and can be used with all commercial 2-component spray application systems in the SprayMix method. The best results are achieved with INTERCOLL A 5978, the specially developed 2-component spray application system. With the clean transfer technology, it impresses with regard to transfer efficiency, spray prevention and workplace hygiene. The adhesive is applied precisely with exact edges. The workplace is also less polluted thanks to the accurate application at the edges. The adhesive is more pleasant to use. The substrates can be bonded immediately with INTERCOLL D 3088 without any drying time. Thanks to the immediate adhesion, bondings of difficult surfaces with high tension are also possible.
Easy delivery
Both components can be delivered flexibly and customised to the processing situation, both free flow, from the pressurised container and using a diaphragm pump. The system can be easily used for individual workstations and in a central supply system.
Environmentally friendly
INTERCOLL D 3088 has an Eco Passport certification and meets the requirements of Nordic Swan and the Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificate Standard. It also complies with exclusion lists such as Red List and Ikea IosMat.
Suitable for a wide range of applications
INTERCOLL D 3088 is perfect for bonding all common absorbent and non-absorbent substrates for the manufacture of upholstery, office chairs and mattresses, as well as for assembly/packaging. Excellent initial adhesion is achieved with common materials such as foam, fleece, upholstery fabric, wood, hard fibre, cardboard, etc. Even on low-energy plastic surfaces such as polyethylene and polypropylene, INTERCOLL D 3088 impresses with superb immediate adhesion, perfect for the manufacture of office chairs. With its wide range of applications, INTERCOLL D 3088 can be used as a real alternative to solvent and CR products.

Thanks to its high ageing resistance and the excellent heat resistance, INTERCOLL D 3088 assists the quality of the end product. With its particularly low resistance to yellowing, the adhesive can also be used under light and thin upholstery fabrics.

Due to its special formulation, INTERCOLL D 3470 suppresses the formation of fine spray mist. This leads to more efficient use of the adhesive thanks to greater transfer efficiency with the spray application and less overspray. As a result, up to 10 % more productivity is achieved. The workstation and the surrounding area are therefore significantly less contaminated.
Suitable for a wide range of applications
The water-based polychloroprene-latex adhesive INTERCOLL D 3470 bonds typical upholstery materials, such as foam materials, non-woven materials, upholstery fabrics, wood, hard fibre, cardboard, etc.
Very fast initial tack
INTERCOLL D 3470 displays very fast initial tack even at very low spray pressures. This is achieved with a new formulation concept, whereby the adhesive already coagulates in the spray jet, thus no airing time is required. INTERCOLL D 3470 is a high-performance contact adhesive, which leads to quick material fracture. But it can also be used as a one-sided adhesive, thus allowing for corrections. Based on these properties, INTERCOLL D 3470 represents a genuine alternative to solvent-based adhesives.
Simple application, as 1-component
No special handling equipment is required for processing the adhesive; the product can be processed in free flow, no elaborate equipment is required for building up the necessary material pressure in the gun. The practical packaging units can simply be placed on a shelf at least one metre above application height. The hydrostatic pressure resulting from the height difference is entirely sufficient for the required material quantity. In comparison to a mixed 2-component adhesive, INTERCOLL D 3470 contains more solid material and therefore has a lower water content. This results in shorter drying times.
User-friendly
INTERCOLL D 3470 is odourless. It is easy to remove from the hands. The adhesive is also almost pH-neutral. Adhesive on floorings does not create any slippery surfaces.
High quality for the final product
INTERCOLL D 3470 has a very high ageing resistance, which in turn leads to the long life of the final product. The environmental friendliness is certified with the TÜV certificate "emissionstested" and the Eco Passport.

INTERCOLL D 3442 is suitable for all common application methods used in the mattress industry. The adhesive works for the assembly of mattresses, using double rollers as well as low pressure spray guns.

The 1-C CR-Latex Roller adhesive INTERCOLL D 3442 is solventfree and odourless, leading to good workplace hygiene. The formulation concept means work equipment and hands can be cleaned with water without the need for special cleaning agents.
Simple material feeding
INTERCOLL D 3442 can be processed in free flow. There is no elaborate equipment required, when it comes to supply the adhesive to double rollers or to built up material pressure needed in the spray guns. The container can be placed at least 1 - 2 meters above application height. The hydrostatic pressure resulting from level difference is sufficient for the required amount of material.

High viscosity
Thanks to the high viscosity of INTERCOLL D 3447 sinkage in the foamed material is minimised. As a result, the adhesive remains where it is used for bonding, on the foam surface. Hardening of the adhesive seam is thus reduced.

One product for all purposes
INTERCOLL D 3460 bonds all usual padding materials, e.g. foam, fleece, cover fabrics, wood, hard fibre and cardboard. The waterbased polychloroprene-latex adhesive is also ideal for more difficult
substrates such as non-woven fabrics, straps, etc.
Very fast, high initial tack
INTERCOLL D 3460 enables a high working speed thanks to its high initial tack. This is achieved with a new formulation concept, whereby the adhesive already coagulates in the spray jet, thus no airing time is required. INTERCOLL D 3460 is a high-performance contact adhesive, which leads to immediate material fracture. But it can also be used as a single-sided adhesive, thus allowing for corrections. Based on these properties, INTERCOLL D 3460 represents a genuine alternative to solventcontaining adhesives.
Low consumption
INTERCOLL D 3460 can be used at a low spraying pressure, thus reducing the overspray and optimising consumption. Despite the low spraying pressure, a high initial tack is achieved compared
with commercially available single-component water-based foam adhesives.
Simple application, as single-component
The product can be applied using the "free-flow" method. To carry the material and to build up the necessary material pressure in the gun, no special complicated equipment is required.
The practical packaging units can simply be placed on a shelf at least one metre above application height. The hydrostatic pressure resulting from the height difference is entirely sufficient
for the required material quantity. In comparison to the mixed two-component adhesive, INTERCOLL D 3460 contains more solid material and therefore has a lower water content. This adds
a drying benefit.
User-friendly
INTERCOLL D 3460 is odourless. It is easy to remove from the fingers. Adhesive on floorings does not create any slippery surfaces.
